An Unexplained Welfare Check
Law enforcement officials in New Jersey recently responded to a grim discovery following an anonymous phone call. Shortly before the bodies of David, Lora, and their daughter Sloane Grodnick were found at their $1.7 million residence, an unidentified individual contacted the Montgomery Township Police to report that something appeared wrong at the property.
Upon arriving at the scene to conduct a welfare check, officers were unable to make contact with the family. After gaining entry, authorities discovered that all three family members had suffered fatal gunshot wounds to the head.
The Ongoing Investigation
The Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office is currently leading the investigation. Officials have emphasized that the situation does not pose a danger to the surrounding community. According to a formal statement released by the office:
«The investigation, which remains ongoing, has yielded that the homicide deaths of both Lora and Sloane Grodnick were an isolated incident and there are no threats to the public from this tragic occurrence.»
Investigators are still working to determine the identity of the mystery caller and how they became aware of the situation at the Grodnick home.
Family Background and History
Reports indicate that the couple had relocated to the Princeton area specifically to provide better educational opportunities for their daughter, who had special needs. Prior to this tragedy, David Grodnick was employed as a senior vice president and underwriting counsel at Land Services USA, a Philadelphia-based firm specializing in commercial real estate insurance.
Legal records revealed that the family had been involved in a 2018 lawsuit against a real estate agent. The dispute centered on a $33,800 deposit related to a 2016 rental agreement the family claimed was hazardous. That litigation was ultimately dismissed in 2019 with no admission of wrongdoing by either party.
