A Rising Tension Within the Unit
The latest installment of the S.W.A.T. franchise has delivered a bombshell revelation that promises to escalate tensions significantly. In the most recent episode of the Starz series S.W.A.T.: Exiles, Hondo (played by Shemar Moore) discovered that Malik (Adain Bradley) is the mole operating within his team. While Malik remains unaware that his cover has been blown, the stage is set for a dramatic confrontation.
In an exclusive interview, 28-year-old actor Adain Bradley teased the fallout of this discovery. «If anybody’s watched the mothership show, you guys know that Hondo doesn’t play,» Bradley remarked. «Trying not to spoil it, but there will be conflict.»
Physical Confrontation Ahead
Bradley hinted that the situation is poised to turn volatile very quickly, suggesting that viewers won't have to wait long to see the dynamic between the characters unravel. «Maybe the fans don’t have to wait too long after episode 4, you might get to see something really soon. It will all come to a head very, very soon,» he added, noting the possibility of «some physical conflict.»
Despite the current friction, Bradley left the door open for potential reconciliation, adding, «There is a way that Malik and Hondo may figure out a way to coexist. Then we’ll see if that comes to fruition by the end of the season.»
The Evolution of the Franchise
The original S.W.A.T. series, which debuted on CBS in 2017, chronicled the missions of the Los Angeles-based Twenty Squad. After a tumultuous production history—including a near-cancellation, a surprise renewal for an eighth season, and a final conclusion in 2025—the franchise found new life through Sony Pictures Television’s S.W.A.T.: Exiles, featuring a new unit led by Moore.
Reflecting on his character, Bradley described Malik as a former Marine who perceives the world in stark, black-and-white terms. «Hondo is trying to teach him that that life exists more in the gray,» he explained.
A New Approach to Storytelling
Bradley believes that the spinoff offers a unique perspective that differs from the original series. He noted that the new show is deeply character-driven, allowing viewers to understand the motivations behind Malik’s controversial actions.
«At the end of the day, I think audiences may be stuck between a rock and a hard place with Malik,» he noted. «And whilst there is conflict and there is angst within the team, you do get to see his perspective. And you do get to see his side.»
Bradley expressed his enthusiasm for exploring the multifaceted nature of his character, particularly as the story reaches this critical turning point. S.W.A.T.: Exiles airs Friday nights on Starz, with new episodes becoming available for streaming the following day.
