Dianna Russini appears to be laying the groundwork for a professional resurgence. According to reports, the former senior NFL insider at The Athletic has retained the services of experienced crisis publicist Melissa Nathan as she evaluates her next career steps.
Nathan brings a history of managing high-profile clients, including Logan Paul, Johnny Depp, and Justin Baldoni. Notably, the publicist has recently been embroiled in her own set of challenges, specifically addressing accusations that she managed online smear campaigns against Blake Lively during her work for Baldoni—allegations she has consistently denied.
The Background of the Departure
Russini, 43, has maintained a low profile since her departure from The Athletic in April. Her resignation followed an internal investigation into her involvement with New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel. The scrutiny began earlier that spring when images surfaced of the two individuals at an Arizona resort. Although both parties initially characterized the encounter as innocuous, subsequent visual evidence led to increased public and professional speculation.
Following an internal probe, The Athletic concluded in September that Russini’s conduct represented a "clear violation" of company standards.
Industry Support and Future Prospects
Despite the controversy, Russini has retained backing from several peers in the sports media landscape. Mike Silver of The Athletic expressed support during an August radio appearance on the Tom Tolbert Show, stating, “I do think she’s going to be back, probably not as an insider, at least in the short term. But I think she’ll be back in this realm, probably talking about football and other things pretty soon.”
Other colleagues have echoed similar sentiments regarding her future. During a broadcast of his radio program, Jon “Stugotz” Wiener emphasized his loyalty to Russini, asserting that he would welcome the opportunity to work with her. Barstool Sports' Dave Portnoy also expressed a willingness to bring her onto his platform should she choose to pursue that route.
