Tragedy in Georgia
A Georgia community is mourning the loss of a 35-year-old mother who was killed by her boyfriend in a murder-suicide. The incident occurred on Monday, August 17, shortly after the victim, Nicole Karastury Elliott, had dropped two of her three children at school.
The Incident and Investigation
According to authorities, Elliott was fatally shot in the head outside her residence following a disagreement with her boyfriend, 36-year-old Andrew Roy Harris. The following day, investigators discovered Harris deceased inside a room at a Days Inn hotel located in Phenix City.
Harris County Sheriff Mike Jolley provided details during a press conference on Tuesday, August 18. He explained that the altercation between the couple stemmed from a dispute over prescription medication belonging to one of Elliott's children.
Impact on the Family
Sheriff Jolley noted that law enforcement officers were tasked with the difficult responsibility of informing the three children, aged 14, 10, and 6, about the death of their mother. Reflecting on the encounter, the Sheriff stated:
«To make that notification yesterday to those three kids that their mother is no longer with us was heart-wrenching. It’s never an easy thing to do, but when you tell three young kids that their mother is no longer here it’s heartbreaking.»
Community Support
In the wake of the tragedy, a GoFundMe campaign has been established to provide financial assistance to the children. Jarrod Thorne, the organizer of the fundraiser, described the victims as facing an "unimaginable loss."
Thorne’s statement highlighted the sudden nature of the event:
«Nicole had taken her boys to school that morning, and soon after, her children’s lives were changed forever. They were taken from school and told that their mother was gone. Nicole was an amazing woman, mother, and friend with a huge heart who was always willing to help anyone in need.»
The funds raised are intended to assist with funeral and memorial costs, as well as to provide ongoing support for the children as they navigate life without their mother.
