Tom Hanks is celebrating the launch of NASA's historic Artemis II mission and the four astronauts embarking on the journey. Artemis II marks the first time in over 50 years that astronauts will travel beyond low Earth orbit.

Hanks penned a lengthy note on Instagram, naming each astronaut—Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Jeremy Hansen, and Christina Koch—and cheering for their safe return. He highlighted that no humans have traveled beyond Earth's gravitational pull since December 1972.

His post, which included a photo with the crew, garnered tens of thousands of likes and shares. The 10-day mission may see the crew travel farther from Earth than any humans before.

Notably, Hanks starred in the film 'Apollo 13' and recently co-wrote a documentary about NASA's lunar voyages, featuring interviews with the Artemis II astronauts.
