Defending the Administration’s Transparency
Vice President JD Vance recently addressed growing public skepticism regarding the release of the Jeffrey Epstein files, asserting that President Donald Trump remains fully committed to complete transparency. During a recent appearance on The View, Vance emphasized his direct involvement in the decision-making process surrounding the declassification of these documents.
“What I disagree with is the idea that the White House wasn’t committed to full transparency. We have to remember I was inside of the room when some of these decisions were made,” Vance stated. He further noted that the released materials actually highlight a hostile relationship between the two men, claiming, “One of the things that you see in the Epstein emails is that Jeffrey Epstein hated Donald Trump and that Donald Trump literally reported Jeffrey Epstein to the police.”
The Epstein Files Transparency Act
In November 2025, President Trump signed the Epstein Files Transparency Act into law. This legislation mandated that the Department of Justice (DOJ) make all unclassified investigative materials, flight logs, and communications related to the late financier’s case available to the public. Epstein, who faced charges of sex trafficking, died by suicide in 2019 before his case could reach a verdict.
Clarifying Allegations and Documentation Delays
When questioned about why millions of documents remain unreleased, Vance attributed the hold-up to procedural delays within the court system and the redundant nature of the files themselves. He clarified, “My understanding is that a lot of those are duplicates that have already been released. We’re not holding anything back.”
Vance also firmly rejected the notion that the President signed the transparency act under pressure from other Republican leaders. He dismissed the idea as unfounded, stating:
«The idea that Donald Trump runs around afraid of Republican congressmen as opposed to the other way around is kind of crazy. Don’t believe everything that you read in any newspaper... There are things that are true. There are things that are false and there are things that are totally missing context.»
Past Ties and Current Stance
President Trump has consistently maintained that he was unaware of the billionaire’s criminal activities. He has previously stated that he cut ties with Epstein over two decades ago after discovering that Epstein had allegedly recruited young female staff from his Mar-a-Lago resort. Reflecting on the gravity of the situation, Vance told the panel:
«I think it’s crazy that you have this guy who is clearly a sex predator who is hanging out with a lot of very wealthy and powerful people. That really bothered me. I don’t know what’s there, of course. Nobody knows exactly what happened unless you were there, but that really bothered me and I wanted to have full transparency.»
