Trump Team Intervenes in Ohio Congressional Race

Recent reports suggest that representatives for Donald Trump contacted Ohio Republican leadership earlier this month, urging them to cease public criticism of Representative Max Miller. The intervention reportedly followed concerns that the 37-year-old congressman was facing immense pressure to drop his bid for reelection in Ohio’s 7th Congressional District.

According to information provided by Politico, the Trump camp requested that local GOP officials stop calling for Miller’s withdrawal, favoring a strategy that leaves the final decision to the voters. One Ohio Republican involved in the discussions summarized the directive: «They basically told us to back off and let the voters decide.»

The Nature of the Allegations

The controversy stems from accusations made by Miller’s ex-wife, Emily Moreno. She alleges that during their marriage, Miller subjected her to physical abuse, including instances of holding a gun to her head and throwing boiling water at her. Furthermore, the accusations include claims of physical force that resulted in injuries to both her and their young daughter.

Miller has consistently and vehemently denied all allegations, dismissing the claims as groundless. In response to the growing scandal, the congressman filed a defamation lawsuit against his ex-wife. However, the legal proceedings inadvertently added to the fire when court documents were released containing sensitive imagery of his minor daughter, leading to a public apology from Miller’s attorney, Aaron Minc, who took responsibility for the «unintentional» mistake.

Ongoing Investigations and Political Fallout

Despite the attorney's attempt to mitigate the damage caused by the document leak, the public outcry regarding Miller’s fitness for office has intensified. Senator Bernie Moreno, the father of Emily Moreno, has publicly denounced Miller, stating: «As he has admitted privately, Max Miller needs serious psychological help. He is a danger to my daughter, and I hold my breath every minute he has custody of my granddaughter.»

In response to the mounting pressure, Miller has insisted on his innocence and requested an ethics investigation into his own conduct to clear his name. The House Ethics Committee has subsequently launched an official probe. Despite the calls for his resignation and a deadline for him to withdraw from the race, Miller has remained steadfast in his commitment to his reelection campaign.
