Celebrating a Cult Classic
Since its theatrical release on April 30, 2004, Mean Girls has solidified its place in pop culture history. While the film arrived in the spring, it is honored every year on October 3. This unique tradition stems from a fan-favorite moment in the movie when Cady Heron, played by Lindsay Lohan, answers the question, “What day is it?” by confirming it is October 3.
The film is packed with endlessly quotable dialogue that continues to permeate social media and casual conversation, such as “On Wednesdays, we wear pink” and the inquisitive “Is butter a carb?”
The Legacy of October 3rd
The date has become so synonymous with the film that it effectively functions as an unofficial holiday for its fanbase. Jonathan Bennett, who starred as Aaron Samuels, has embraced this cultural phenomenon over the years.
Reflecting on the impact of the date in October 2021, Bennett shared his thoughts on Instagram: «And as I sat there on October 3rd, I realized no one else on the planet will ever understand how weird it is to be me today».
Bennett even took the opportunity to celebrate the legacy by teaming up with his Hallmark co-star, Robert Buckley, to film a playful recreation of his famous scene. During the video, Bennett poked fun at his own delivery, joking, «I’m a little rusty,» after intentionally reciting the wrong date. He further delighted fans by referencing another memorable line from the script: «@robertearlbuckley looks sexy with his hair pushed back?»
