A Public Request for Privacy
Kayla Rae Reid, the former partner of Olympic swimmer Ryan Lochte, has issued a public plea to Lochte’s current fiancée, Molly Gillihan, asking that she and her children be left out of public discourse. This follows a series of tensions between the parties since Reid and Lochte separated in March 2025.
Writing on her Instagram Story, Reid expressed her frustration, stating: «At this point, the continuous desperation for attention is overwhelmingly obvious. And while I recognize that publicly discussing me may generate the attention she’s never received, I would appreciate being left out of it.»
The Source of the Conflict
The latest dispute appears to stem from comments made by Gillihan regarding the custody schedule for the three children Reid shares with Lochte: Caiden (9), Liv Rae (7), and Georgia June (3). Reid took issue with how the information was presented, challenging claims regarding how much time the children spent with their father over the summer.
Reid clarified the specifics of their arrangement, noting that their agreement dictates the children spend one month of their two-and-a-half-month summer break with Lochte, and that time during the Christmas holidays is divided equally. «It’s fascinating how selectively facts are presented,» Reid remarked, adding: «And you would think that by marriage number three, her understanding of respect, boundaries and the importance of staying out of someone else’s family matters? But I suppose experience doesn’t always translate into growth.»
Addressing Boundaries
Reid also voiced her disappointment in Lochte’s lack of intervention, suggesting that a father has a responsibility to «draw a very clear line when it comes to someone publicly disrespecting» the mother of his children.
Concluding her statement, Reid emphasized her desire to move on from the ongoing drama:
«I have three actual children to raise. So, for what feels like the hundredth time, please leave me and my children alone. Publicly and privately. I have absolutely no interest in competing, arguing or participating in this circus.»
Reid and Lochte’s divorce was finalized in July. The history between the women remains complicated, with Reid previously alleging that Gillihan, an acquaintance from their time in Gainesville, Florida, began a relationship with Lochte while he was still married to her—an allegation Lochte has denied.
