Shifting Dynamics and New Additions
The upcoming second season of the Yellowstone spinoff Marshals is set to bring fresh energy to the screen, with several adjustments to the cast lineup. Production is currently underway in Utah, and fans can look forward to a more prominent role for Maddie, portrayed by Morgan Lindholm. Introduced in the first season as a bartender with an unexpected link to Cal (Logan Marshall-Green), her character’s development—including her relationship with Miles (Tatanka Means)—will receive more focus in the new episodes.
Additionally, the show has tapped Marque Richardson to join the cast in a recurring capacity. He is set to play Patrick Burns, an Assistant U.S. Attorney. While promotional materials for season 2 have highlighted key characters like Kayce (Luke Grimes), Miles, Andrea (Ash Santos), and Thomas Rainwater (Gil Birmingham), the notable absence of Cal and Belle (Arielle Kebbel) in initial previews sparked speculation regarding their fates following the intense season 1 finale.
The Status of Cal and Belle
Despite the uncertainty surrounding their characters, both Logan Marshall-Green and Arielle Kebbel have confirmed their involvement in the second season. Marshall-Green addressed the ambiguity of the finale, stating, «I can confirm Cal is alive, but not necessarily unscathed. I think I can confirm that for everybody in the show, because everyone is going through it by the end of this.»
Kebbel echoed these sentiments, noting her deep immersion in the new script: «I am a part of season 2, yes. We start filming with a pick up of that finale moment.» Reflecting on the suspenseful cliffhanger, she admitted that her initial reaction was focused on the danger facing Cal, noting that she was more concerned for him than for her own character, Belle, who is accustomed to precarious situations.
Creative Direction and Future Storylines
Looking ahead, the cast remains committed to delivering a raw and authentic portrayal of their characters' struggles. Marshall-Green expressed a desire to avoid a «safe approach,» especially when addressing heavy themes like illness. According to the actor, it is his duty to reflect the true challenges faced by men and women in uniform.
Marshall-Green also expressed strong faith in the creative team, including series creator Spencer Hudnut. Regarding the direction of the plot, he stated, «It’s about what stories are left to tell. That’s up to Spencer and the writers.» Despite the demanding nature of the production, the cast remains dedicated to the project, with the actor adding, «The first season was a grueling shoot, but we love coming to work.»
Marshals is currently available for streaming on Paramount+, with the second season scheduled to return to CBS this fall.
