A Competitive Start

The 35th season of Dancing With the Stars made a high-energy return on Tuesday, September 15. The opening night focused on the male celebrity contestants, who performed routines set to Billboard No. 1 hits from their respective birth years. The atmosphere in the ballroom was intense, as the judges made it clear that they would be enforcing strict scoring criteria throughout the season.

The Judges' Verdicts

Following a themed cha-cha by Jackson Olson, judge Derek Hough set the tone for the evening:

“Our expectations are super high, you’re going to have to earn every single point. Don’t be surprised at where the scores land tonight.”

The results of the night were mixed:

  • Jackson Olson: Received three 5s from the panel of judges.
  • Guillermo Rodriguez: Earned a combined score of 10 for his performance.
  • Tyler Cameron: Faced a score reduction after Carrie Ann Inaba noted an improper lift during his tango with professional partner Sharna Burgess.

The First Elimination

Despite the competitive spirit, the premiere ended on a somber note as Conner Leavitt and his professional partner, Adele Zaikman, became the first couple to be eliminated from the competition.

Reflecting on his brief time on the show, the Secret Lives of Mormon Wives star expressed gratitude for the experience: “This has been the most fun. I have the greatest partner in the world in Adele, and I can’t wait for the world to get to see her talents.”

What’s Next

The premiere event continues on Wednesday, September 16, as the female celebrity contestants hit the dance floor to vie for survival and avoid the next elimination. Fans can catch the competition on ABC and Disney+ at 8 p.m. ET.
