Adapting 'The Five-Star Weekend' for the Screen
As fans of Elin Hilderbrand’s popular novel The Five-Star Weekend navigate the differences between the source material and the Peacock adaptation, actress Harlow Jane is offering a positive perspective on the adjustments. While some plot points have diverged from the book, Jane believes these creative choices are strengthening the narrative and laying a compelling foundation for future episodes.
“There are a couple things that I do miss from the books and there are some things that I like. I think that ultimately, the changes that they have made will probably make for a much juicier season 2 if it were to happen,” the 23-year-old actress shared in an interview. “So I would be excited to see how that plays out in the long term.”
The Journey of Caroline
The series follows food influencer Hollis, played by Jennifer Garner, as she gathers her diverse group of friends—portrayed by Chloë Sevigny, Regina Hall, D’Arcy Carden, and Gemma Chan—following the sudden loss of her husband. Amidst this emotional backdrop, Jane’s character, Caroline, retreats to the family’s Nantucket estate. This setting forces the young woman to grapple with both the loss of her father and a strained, complex dynamic with her mother.
Looking Ahead: Hopes for Season 2
Although the show has not yet received an official renewal order, Harlow Jane is already envisioning where the story could go. Beyond suggesting exotic potential settings like Greece, she has specific aspirations for Caroline’s personal arc. Following the character's entanglement with her friend's boyfriend in the first season, the actress expressed a desire to see a more stable romantic path for her.
“That would be sweet,” Jane noted. “I think Caroline is at a phase in life that is so interesting to be a girl. She’s, I think, 18 in season 1. She’d be around 19 in season 2. I mean 19, I remember I went through a lot at 19. 19 is hard. 19 felt like the end of the world every single day. But it was also so happy and so great and I was learning so much about myself. I guess I would like to see some of that on the screen.”
