Following the sudden passing of Hayden Panettiere at the age of 36, Tim Kring, the creator and showrunner of the iconic NBC series Heroes, has shared a heartfelt tribute to the actress. In a reflective essay published by Variety, Kring recalled the moment Panettiere first auditioned for the role of the teenage cheerleader Claire Bennet.
Kring noted that while she was already an experienced professional at the time of her audition, she lacked the cynicism often found in performers who begin their careers at a young age. “It was a fait accompli that she would embody the role of Claire Bennet, aka the Cheerleader, from the moment we met her,” Kring wrote.
Remarkable Craftsmanship
During her tenure on the show from 2006 to 2010, Panettiere became one of its most recognizable stars. Kring vividly remembered her exceptional ability to maintain emotional intensity on set:
“I remember vividly that if a scene called for Hayden to cry, we would all marvel at how she could cry with intensity for 12 takes in a row. When the director yelled ‘Cut,’ she’d go back to texting her friends or laughing with her castmates right up until the moment the director called ‘Action’ for the next take. Then out would come the waterworks again.”
Beyond her technical skills, Kring described her as a person of warmth and grace, stating he would always remember her as “a kind and gentle person who was always a joy and an inspiration to work with.”
Details Regarding Her Passing
Hayden Panettiere passed away on Sunday, August 16, in Greenville, South Carolina. According to an official statement from the Greenville County Coroner’s Office, emergency services were dispatched following a report of cardiac arrest. Despite the efforts of first responders to perform advanced life support, the actress was pronounced deceased shortly after 2:30 PM.
A subsequent autopsy conducted by the coroner's office confirmed that there were no signs of trauma that would have contributed to her death.
