Updates on the Taylor Sheridan Universe
Fans of the hit series Landman have been waiting for news as the production schedule for the third season faces notable adjustments. Jane Wiseman, the head of originals at Paramount+, recently discussed the company's broader strategy regarding Taylor Sheridan's prolific slate of shows, which includes Tulsa King, Landman, Frisco King, and various projects within the Yellowstone orbit.
Regarding the sheer volume of content currently in development, Wiseman noted: “We are definitely developing a lot; we’ve announced seven scripted drama greenlights in the last 10 months, so it does feel like there’s volume. And then we have a lot on the runway that we haven’t announced yet.” She emphasized that the network aims to remain methodical rather than scaling too rapidly, stating: “We want to be very deliberate in our choices. We want to stay on strategy. We want to curate what we have, but we also want to take care of the Sheridan audience, the Taylorverse.”
Strategic Shifts and Future Deals
The landscape of Sheridan's collaborations is set to shift in the coming years. It was previously reported that the creator secured a significant five-year agreement with NBCUniversal. This deal, which covers film, television, and streaming projects, is scheduled to take effect on January 1, 2029, following the conclusion of his current Paramount contract. While Paramount will maintain the rights to established franchises like Yellowstone, Sheridan is expected to develop entirely new intellectual properties for NBCUniversal following the merger between Paramount and Skydance Media.
Production Delays and Filming Outlook
Landman, which premiered in November 2024, has navigated a complex production timeline. Following the conclusion of the second season’s production in August 2025, the third season encountered several rescheduling hurdles. Originally slated for a May 2026 start, filming was pushed back on multiple occasions.
Actor James Jordan provided clarity on the current status of the production, confirming that work on the third season was set to begin in September. Jordan commented on the upcoming schedule:
“We start that sometime in September, and we’ll shoot that through the first quarter of next year. Then we should have it out … I don’t know when. It’s up to the powers that be, but we’re very excited to get started on that.”
While the specific reasons for the filming delays remain undisclosed, the scheduling changes followed a period of contract renegotiations. Reports indicate that most of the original cast successfully secured salary increases in June, with the exception of lead actor Billy Bob Thornton, who operates under a separate multi-year agreement.
