Clarifying the Relationship

During a recent appearance on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen, actress Brooke Shields discussed her brief romantic history with the late John F. Kennedy Jr. When asked about her thoughts on the FX series Love Story, which chronicles Kennedy’s relationship with Carolyn Bessette, Shields shared some personal context regarding her own connection to him.

Shields, 60, clarified the nature of their 1980s connection, stating, «I didn’t have a love story, I had a crazy, crazy crush. We dated, but I never slept with him, so I don’t know if that counts.» She fondly recalled that he was «lovely» to her during their time together.

The «Love Story» Connection

The actress noted that her 23-year-old daughter, Rowan Henchy, served as a production assistant on the series. Shields expressed initial surprise when her daughter informed her that her own historical fling with Kennedy was referenced in the show.

According to Shields, she had a candid conversation with her daughter about the past. Regarding her decision not to take the relationship further at the time, Shields shared a vulnerable perspective:

«We did have a real date. I wouldn’t sleep with him because I kind of loved him too much. I was like, ‘Oh, my God, you’re falling in love, and if you sleep with him he may not talk to you again — and you can’t handle that.’»

She emphasized that she wasn't playing games, but rather was deeply afraid of being hurt, noting that she would have «given him my entire universe» had things progressed differently.

Comments on Michael Jackson Film

In addition to discussing her past with Kennedy, Shields addressed inquiries regarding the 2026 musical drama Michael, which is based on the life of her late friend, Michael Jackson. While she has yet to view the film, she confirmed she is not depicted in it and does not feel any personal grievance regarding the project. «I’m like, ‘No, he was my dear friend,’» she said, dismissing suggestions that she might be upset by the production.
