A Night of Terror for the Comedian

Comedian Laura Clery recently opened up about a life-threatening accident that left her pinned beneath a 600-pound refrigerator. Describing the event as the most terrifying moment of her life as a single mother, Clery shared that the incident occurred while she was at home with her children.

«I genuinely didn’t know if I was getting out of that alive,» Clery recounted on social media. The comedian explained that she was alone when the heavy appliance tipped over and trapped her against a counter, restricting her breathing and causing her to lose consciousness. She credited her survival to the fact that her phone was in her pocket, allowing her to call 911 for emergency assistance. It ultimately took three firefighters to lift the unit off her.

The Sequence of Events

In a detailed post on Patreon, Clery explained the cause of the accident. She noticed her son attempting to climb the large, stainless steel French door refrigerator. Sensing danger, she rushed over to push the appliance back into its proper position. «The second I pushed it, it came down on me,» she wrote. «Not slowly. Not in a way where I could catch it or jump out of the way. It just fell.»

While trapped, she described the struggle to maintain consciousness as the heavy weight made it increasingly difficult to inhale. «I’m just there, pinned under a fridge, thinking this is the dumbest way anyone has ever died,» she admitted.

Aftermath and Recovery

Since the incident, Clery has been struggling with flashbacks and the distressing «what if» scenarios that haunt her. She expressed deep relief that her children remained unharmed, noting that while her lower back was severely injured, she miraculously suffered no broken bones.

Seeking accountability, Clery stated her intention to take legal action against the contractors who originally installed the fridge. She emphasized that a heavy appliance of that nature should have been properly secured to the wall. «This was negligence,» she stated, highlighting that the failure to mount the fridge correctly nearly cost her her life and could have easily resulted in a tragedy involving her child.

Currently, the comedian is focused on processing the trauma and is exploring therapeutic options, such as EMDR, to help her move past the harrowing experience.
