Courtney Stodden has publicly responded to an act of accountability by actor Jason Alexander. The 66-year-old Seinfeld star recently made a donation to Unchained At Last, a non-profit organization focused on ending child marriage in the U.S., following a public apology regarding a 2012 comedy sketch featuring Stodden.
In a social media post, 31-year-old Stodden, who has transitioned into an advocate for the cause, expressed her appreciation for the gesture. «I was grateful to learn Jason Alexander sent a beautiful gift to Unchained At Last. I want to sincerely thank him for choosing to turn words into action,» Stodden stated. «Accountability isn’t about public punishment — it’s about taking meaningful steps that can help create change.»
The Controversy Behind the Sketch
The situation stems from a 2012 sketch produced by Funny or Die. In the parody, which mocked daytime television, Alexander used a mobile device against Stodden’s chest to perform a mock health assessment. Stodden, who was a minor at the time, has spoken out about the discomfort of reflecting on that moment as an adult.
Reflecting on the power of such instances, she noted: «My hope has always been bigger than my own story. If difficult conversations can lead to real support for organizations protecting children and ending child marriage, then something positive can come from something deeply painful.»
Moving Toward Change
Following Stodden’s critique, Alexander issued a formal apology for his involvement in the sketch, describing his actions as inappropriate and expressing regret for the distress caused to her.
Stodden, who was famously married to actor Doug Hutchinson at age 16, has become a prominent voice against the legal loophole that allows child marriage in many U.S. states. Currently, 33 states still permit marriage for individuals under 18, a reality Stodden is actively working to change.
