Authorities have leveled serious charges against fourteen individuals, a group that includes former Pennsylvania State University students, fraternity members, and a high-profile Pittsburgh attorney. The case centers on an alleged multistate cocaine trafficking operation that investigators claim was managed from within two university fraternity houses.
Pennsylvania Attorney General Dave Sunday officially announced the sweeping legal actions on August 18, 2026. He characterized the group as a "coordinated and highly-profitable drug-trafficking crew" that exploited fraternity networks and family connections to facilitate their illicit business.
Leadership and Modus Operandi
Prosecutors have identified two primary ringleaders: Agostino Abbatiello of the Sigma Chi fraternity and Thomas Robinson of the Delta Upsilon fraternity. Despite both men graduating in 2024, authorities allege they continued to oversee a distribution chain that involved frequent supply runs to New York and Philadelphia.
Court documents reveal that the network grew significantly following a spring 2023 procurement of 100 grams of cocaine. Lars Zeepvat, a co-defendant, reportedly provided testimony detailing how the operation shifted from personal consumption to profit-driven distribution. Zeepvat further alleged that Abbatiello coerced him into delivering drugs as repayment for a $1,500 debt incurred during a spring break trip.
Evidence and the Arrest of Thomas Robinson
Law enforcement successfully identified Thomas Robinson through digital forensic evidence, specifically monitoring his Venmo activity. An informant had alerted police that a dealer using the handle "T-Rob" was moving large quantities of cocaine out of the Delta Upsilon house.
During a raid on the fraternity house in December 2024, officers took Robinson into custody. A search of his room yielded:
- Over eight grams of cocaine
- Approximately eight ounces of marijuana
- More than 200 amphetamine and dextroamphetamine pills
- A .45-caliber handgun
Robinson faces multiple charges, including drug manufacturing and delivery, while investigators continue to probe the extent of the shipments received from his associate, Abbatiello.
Involvement of Paul Robinson
Among those indicted is Paul Robinson, a well-known Pittsburgh attorney and father of Thomas Robinson. He faces felony charges related to tampering with evidence and obstructing the investigation. State prosecutors claim that Paul Robinson took active steps to hide a safe containing cash and narcotics linked to the operation.
Institutional Response
In response to the scandal, Penn State officials have placed the Delta Upsilon fraternity on interim suspension while the legal proceedings unfold. The university noted that Sigma Chi operates independently of their oversight, leaving them outside the scope of current university-mandated disciplinary actions.
Andrea Dowhower, vice president for student affairs at Penn State, issued a formal statement regarding the situation: «We are horrified by these serious allegations against current and former students. Criminal activity, including hazing, such as this has no place at our institution, and we will cooperate with law enforcement in any way we can.»
Attorney General Sunday confirmed that while the core members of the trafficking ring have been apprehended, the investigation remains active as the case moves toward preliminary hearings.
