Denial of Ethics Complaints
Representative Lauren Boebert has issued a formal rebuttal to allegations brought before the House Ethics Committee, which suggest she engaged in sexual relationships with three current and former staff members. A spokesperson for the 39-year-old congresswoman dismissed the claims entirely, stating, “Congresswoman Lauren Boebert rejects these allegations as utterly false and there is no truth to them whatsoever.”
The representative’s camp characterized the filing as a “politically motivated stunt” intended to manipulate the ethical review process, generate negative media attention, and damage her professional reputation. According to reports, the complaint was submitted to the House Committee on Ethics by David Wheeler of American Muckrakers. The document includes allegations of misconduct involving three staffers and claims that Boebert attempted to facilitate a $200,000 payment to suppress a separate ethics grievance.
Context of the Accusations
Boebert’s office highlighted that the individual behind the complaint is a known activist who has previously circulated claims that were found to be without merit. “These accusations come from an activist who has long recycled sensational claims, including numerous baseless accusations previously fact-checked as false,” the representative’s spokesperson added.
Under the House Code of Official Conduct, members are strictly prohibited from engaging in intimate or sexual relations with individuals employed directly under their supervision. Violations of these rules can lead to severe disciplinary actions.
Past Controversies
This development follows other high-profile incidents involving the Colorado representative. In September 2023, Boebert faced public scrutiny after being asked to leave a performance of Beetlejuice The Musical at the Buell Theatre in Denver. While she initially denied allegations of inappropriate behavior, she eventually issued a public apology.
In her previous statement regarding that incident, she remarked:
«The past few days have been difficult and humbling, and I’m truly sorry for the unwanted attention my Sunday evening in Denver has brought to the community. There’s no perfect blueprint for going through a public and difficult divorce... I simply fell short of my values on Sunday. That’s unacceptable and I’m sorry.»
Congressional Tenure
Boebert, who has served as a vocal supporter of Donald Trump, has represented Colorado’s fourth congressional district since January 2025, following her previous service in the state’s third district. During her time in office, she has frequently been a central figure in political discourse, often commenting on the conduct of her peers, at one point suggesting that colleagues facing personal or professional struggles should “go to church [and] find Jesus.”
