Reflecting on a Memorable Role

Following the intense backlash surrounding the recent season finale of the hit ABC drama Will Trent, which saw the sudden departure of key characters, actor Scott Foley has publicly shared his thoughts. Taking to Instagram, Foley expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to participate in the series.

Alongside an image of his name featured in the show's title card, Foley shared, «What a wonderful gift to receive after a wonderful experience on #willtrent. Thanks to the cast and crew, the writers and creators who made the experience so special.» He further noted that the keepsake would be a sentimental reminder for his family, adding, «This will surely make my wife and daughter say 'Awww' each time they pass by and really, that’s enough for me.»

The Impact of the Season Finale

The finale, which aired on May 5, left fans reeling as a joyous moment for Angie (played by Erika Christensen) was quickly overshadowed by tragedy. Her husband, Seth, portrayed by Foley, suffered a fatal collapse while in the hospital. The narrative decision to kill off such a central figure sparked significant conversation among the show’s dedicated audience.

Reflecting on the plot development, co-star Iantha Richardson shared insight into the creative choices behind the character's death. «It sets up a beautiful emotional arc for people in the coming season of what’s to come,» she explained. «So there’s a lot to look forward to.»

Looking Toward the Future

Despite the potential for character growth, Richardson admitted that the frequent departures of cast members are difficult for the team. She highlighted the emotional toll of the recent scripts, stating, «Losing people like that definitely keeps you on your toes. Nobody expected to lose one person — let alone two — in very different genres of what the show has. But to lose two in a matter of three weeks is just gut wrenching over and over again.»

The series, which also stars Ramón Rodríguez, Jake McLaughlin, Sonja Sohn, and Kevin Daniels, has been renewed for a third season. Regarding the uncertainty of character longevity, Richardson noted, «I don’t know if it’s death necessarily but I hope not. I do know that there is a lot of emotional recoil that will come in the season to come.»
