Tennis champion Sloane Stephens has announced her separation from husband Jozy Altidore, a retired professional soccer player. The couple revealed their split in a joint social media post on Saturday, requesting privacy and stating they are navigating the process with mutual respect.
Stephens, the 2017 U.S. Open winner, filed for divorce earlier this month in Florida, citing the marriage as "irretrievably broken." The filing indicates the pair have a prenuptial agreement. They have no children together, though Altidore has a child from a previous relationship.
The two athletes first met in middle school but reconnected and began dating in 2016. They married on New Year's Day 2022 in Miami Beach. Altidore enjoyed a successful soccer career in MLS and internationally, also scoring 42 goals for the U.S. Men's National Team.
Stephens, currently ranked 775th by the WTA, has contended with injuries in recent years but competed in the Australian Open last month.
