A New Chapter in Comedy

For stand-up comedian and podcast host Chanel Omari, reaching the age of 40 is far from a crisis—it is the perfect source of inspiration. Omari is currently preparing for her milestone debut: her first-ever live comedy special, titled “40 Is the New 20.”

The one-hour special is scheduled for a live recording on Saturday, May 23, at the iconic New York City venue, The Cutting Room. The show is expected to premiere on Amazon Prime this coming November. Through a blend of fearless humor and relatable storytelling, Omari intends to challenge societal views on aging in a culture that remains fixated on youth.

Defining the 'Second 20s'

When discussing the concept of her show, Omari explains that turning 40 feels like a significant evolution. She notes that while the 20s are often defined by chaos, insecurity, and the pressure to impress others, reaching 40 brings a newfound sense of clarity.

«It’s your second 20s—but with boundaries, better skincare, and hopefully a therapist. You care less about perfection and more about peace,» says Omari.

She emphasizes that while she may mentally feel like a 20-year-old—still wanting to dream big and dance all night—her body occasionally reminds her of the passing years. According to Omari, staying young is less about aesthetic procedures and more about maintaining curiosity, laughter, and a supportive circle of inspiring people.

Navigating Modern Dating and Career Growth

Omari also touches upon the complexities of dating in one’s 40s. She jokes that while dating in your 20s involves superficial questions, the 40s require navigating "bonus content" like emotional availability and attachment styles. She views the modern dating landscape as a mix of a part-time job and a psychological experiment, yet notes that it becomes more authentic when one truly knows their own worth.

Her path to this comedy special was built on years of dedication. Despite the common misconception of overnight success, Omari spent years performing in clubs and producing her iHeartRadio podcast, “Chanel in the City.” She credits her rise to staying consistent and authentic to her own voice, even when faced with uncertainty.

Looking Ahead

Beyond her stand-up career, Omari continues to expand her footprint in media. Whether she is interviewing celebrities on her podcast or working on new film projects with director Danny A. Abeckaser, her goal remains consistent: to make people laugh and help them feel a little less alone. As she prepares for the live taping, she looks forward to sharing a night that promises to be a vibrant mix of comedy, familiar faces from the New York social scene, and a celebration of the evolution that comes with age.
