Production Tensions Lead to Departure

According to reports from veteran entertainment journalist Matthew Belloni, actor Tom Hardy will not be part of the third season of the popular Paramount+ drama MobLand. It is suggested that the studio decided against renewing Hardy's option for the upcoming season following reports of friction behind the scenes during the production of the show's second chapter.

The circumstances surrounding the departure allegedly involve behavioral issues on set. According to information provided by Belloni, the 48-year-old actor was frequently late to filming and attempted to influence the creative direction by providing unsolicited notes on the script and frequently modifying established dialogue.

Series Success and Backstory

MobLand, which debuted in March 2025, features Guy Ritchie as an executive producer and was created by Ronan Bennett. The show proved to be an instant hit for Paramount+, leading to a swift renewal for a second season by June 2025. In addition to his role as an actor, Hardy has also contributed to the series as an executive producer.

At the time of the second-season announcement, Chris McCarthy, co-CEO of Paramount and president of Showtime/MTV Entertainment, praised the show's massive success:

“With over 26 million viewers and climbing, MobLand has become a resounding triumph driven by the creative brilliance of Guy, Jez [Butterworth], Ronan and David C. Glasser, and brought to life by the powerhouse performances by Tom, Pierce, and Helen.”

Looking Ahead

Writer and executive producer Jez Butterworth previously expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration, noting that the project transformed his view on television production. Despite the ongoing buzz surrounding the series and its high viewership numbers, details regarding the premiere date for the second season have yet to be finalized.

As of now, the first season remains available for streaming on Paramount+. Representatives for Tom Hardy, the network, and the production house, 101 Studios, have been approached for comment regarding the reports of his departure.
